Pedestal problem
Sculptors often have to deal with the so-called ‘pedestal problem’. That is simply inherent in the existence of gravity. Does the pedestal belong to the statue and form a single unit, or is it only a practical form?

Solution
In this work, I want to settle this once and for all by merging the pedestal and the statue. It seems as if the pedestal here has swallowed the statue and over time it has fossilised. It’s a shame that humans haven’t existed long enough to appear as fossils. We’ll just have to hang on here for a while.
