Torso in Paris

I am more than honored to tell you that my work is Torso RM / Self-Portrait 6 has been loaned by the Rijksmusem Amsterdam to the Dutch Residence in Paris, Hôtel d’Avaray. In the center of the garden, the work is placed at an extraordinary height. To surprising effect. The work here exudes grandeur and tranquility. It does justice to the basis of this work; the Torso Belvedere, the symbol of sculpture in art history.

Precisely because of the art historical basis and numerous references of this work, it stands well here in Paris, following in the footsteps of Rodin. It is common knowledge that Rodin based his Thinker almost literally on the dynamics of the Torso Belvedere. He eventually even had the Thinker placed on his own grave in Meudon, on a pedestal with his name in hefty capitals.

Many thanks to the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Philippien Noordam and HIZKIA.
