Personal space / Self-portrait 12

Unique tangible identity
Without our skin, man would be but a mushy, shapeless mass.

Under the skin
No matter how much space you take up, one thing is clear: what’s under your skin belongs to you; it’s where your absolute personal integrity prevails. But who owns the space just outside your form?

The boundary between the “I” and the external world
How much space can we occupy as individuals? This question occurred to me when I was seated behind someone in the plane who, due to his body size, was occupying three seats.

My fictional, virtual personal space
By sewing together a silicone cast of my own body in different ways, each time I take on a different volume. Sometimes I might feel like taking up more space. Or maybe I’m bending over backwards to avoid being noticed?
